unit 4-modernism
ELAALRL2 The student identifies, analyzes, and applies knowledge of theme in a work of American literature and provides evidence from the work to support understanding.
ELAALRL3 The student deepens understanding of literary works by relating them to their contemporary context or historical background, as well as to works from other time periods.
ELAALRL5 The student understands and acquires new vocabulary and uses it correctly in reading and writing.
1. Create a new post on your blog called "Unit Four", and then explain which of the above standards you have had the most difficulty mastering. Make specific references to the work you have done in this class in your response.
ELAALRL1 The student demonstrates comprehension by identifying evidence (i.e., examples of diction, imagery, point of view, figurative language, symbolism, plot events and main ideas) in a variety of texts representative of different genres (i.e., poetry, prose [short story, novel, essay, editorial, biography], and drama) and using this evidence as the basis for interpretation.
This is the standard that i had the most difficulty with because i barely understood it and it was hard. This standard was talking about a lot of things that i barely knew until really the end of realism. At the end of the realism project made me realize that i was showing evidence.
2. Choose one of the Modernism themes named above that you are most interested in studying: Disillusionment, the Harlem Renaissnace, The Jazz Age, or Phychoanalysis. Write a paragraph that describes why you made this choice and how you expect to see the topic you chose represented in the literature you are about to read.
3. Read the story that coresponds to the theme you chose. Chose a topic according to your interests, not the length of the story. Choosing a story because of its length is not the wisest way to approach this assignment.
Disillusionment -- Soldier's Home by Earnest Hemmingway
The Harlem Renaissance -- Sweat or The Gilded Six-Bits by Zora Neale Hurston can be found here.
The Jazz Age -- Choose a story by F. Scott Fitzgerald here.
Psychoanalysis -- The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber
When you are through reading, you should type a two-paragraph response to the story you read, and then provide another two paragraphs in which you analyze the theme you chose and how it is represented in the story. Take time to explain how the author features the theme you chose, and go deeper and explain what you believe he or she is saying about America. This will require you to provide examples straight from the texts as well as some synthesis on your part (drawing your own conclusions).
4. Read the following poems. When you study poetry, it is a good habit to read each selection MORE THAN ONCE.
Richard Corey by Edwin Arlington Robinson
Mending Wall by Robert Frost
A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes
The Negro Speaks of Rivers by Langston Hughes
Incident by Countee Cullen
Write a paragraph response to each poem in which you explain your opinions about what is being written as well as identify one of the elements of Modernism in each. These paragraphs must contain direct evidence from the poetry to support whatever claims you make. Please be thorough enough in this section so not to have to go back and make adjustmetns after I read your work.
5. Review your response to number 1 in this unit. Then explain how you have addressed the Georgia Performance Standard you said was a challenge for you. You should support this claim with evidence from your own work.
Once you have completed all of the above, leave me a comment to remind me to check your work.

Unit three: The Dark Romanticism and Realism
Read the standard at least twice and begin thinking about what you may be asked to do before you are through with this unit. Once you are done thinking:.
1. Create a post on your blog titled "Unit Three", and then explain what you believe the above standard means, and then go further by explaining what you think you will need to do to meet this particular standard.
1. What is original sin? Original sin is when adam and eve first sinned and thats how we became sinners because we took some of their sins and inherited in us.
2. How did the Transcendentalists feel about it? They were against religion and believed that GOD had communicated with them through nature and through peoples minds. The Transcendentalists also had believed that every human being was good and pure. The Transcendentalists did not believe that institutions like the government or organized religion were effective. They didnt believe that Adam and Eve did those things.
3. Read either "The Black Cat" or "Hop-Frog", both by Edgar Allen Poe. As you read, keep the Dark Romantics' beliefs in mind because you will be asked to point out these beliefs in the story later. You can also choose to listen to "The Masque of Red Death" below; if you do, be sure to read the text as you listen:
4. Write a 2-3 paragraph response to the story you read. You should explain what you thought of the story as well as how well it illustrates how the Dark Romantics disagreed with the Transcendantalists. You need to provide at least a line or two of direct textual evidence from the story you chose to prove your claim.
I didn't like this story because of the fact that he was killing people and that it's a very evil story and I don't like anything evil.
This is true with Dark Romanticism because it show how people can be evil and good. The reason why I say this because it shows in the story that he was a good and happy person in the begining of the story. Then later on in the story the Dark Romanticism had took over him and made him evil by killing a cat and his wife. He didn't care about what he did was cruel. Thats how I see that this story is true. The Trancedentalists believed that the intuitions is that GOD can only speak good things through your mind and not evil bad things. The story showed that there is an intuition of Dark Romanticism and that there is also evil too. Why i think that is because of the fact that the man had killed a cat. His intuition says, "The fury of a demon possessed me."
5. Once of Poe's most famous works was "The Raven", a poem he wrote while his second wife was literally dying in the next room. Read the poem (more than once), and then write a response (at least two paragraphs) that includes a few lines that stuck out to you. Add another paragraph or two that should explain how this poem represents an anti-Transcendental idea. As always, responses with direct evidence are always better than those that do not.
I didn't like this because it has a bird that symbolizes death, sadness, and anything else that had to with death. Another reason why I didn't like this poem is because of the fact that it was evil and it is talking about the evil part of the Dark Romanticism.
One part of the poem that struck out to me is when he was sitting in the I guess living room reading a book almost napping when someone had started knocking on his door at midnight and when he had opened the door there wasn't anyone there. Another part of the poem that struck out to me is when he had open his window a crow called The Raven flew in sat on an scupture and took control over is mind, and when he had asked th crow what was his name he quoted, "Nevermore."
6. A symbol is something (usually an object) that stands for a much larger idea. Poe uses symbolism very weill in "The Raven". Can you identify it, and then support what you say with some evidence and analysis? I know you can.
The raven symbolizes death, and sadness. The reason why i say this because Poe had figured out that the crow was not helping him get over the sadness of the death of his wife he was trying to make him even more miserable than what he already was and he didn't understand why was the crow doing this to him.
7. Check these out. If you are doing what you should, you are addressing all three (and even more) in this unit. Using your word as DIRECT evidence (cut and paste from your own post) tell me how you are meeting these standards.
"Wretch," I cried, "thy GOD hath lent thee-by these angels he hath sent thee Respite-respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore; Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore!"
ELAALRL1 The student demonstrates comprehension by identifying evidence (i.e., examples of diction, imagery, point of view, figurative language, symbolism, plot events and main ideas) in a variety of texts representative of different genres (i.e., poetry, prose [short story, novel, essay, editorial, biography], and drama) and using this evidence as the basis for interpretation
Yes i provided evidence. If you look in number 7 it will show you that i have provided evidence for this lesson.
ELAALRL2 The student identifies, analyzes, and applies knowledge of theme in a work of American literature and provides evidence from the work to support understanding.
yes i know what theme is. I know this because in the above lesson i showed how The Trencedentalists and The Dark Romanticism are different between each other.
ELAALRL3 The student deepens understanding of literary works by relating them to their contemporary context or historical background, as well as to works from other time periods.
I related The Trancendentalists and The Dark Romanticism from each other because they are different in a lot of ways. The Trendcendentalists believed that there was never an evil and that GOD only spoke good things through your mind. The Dark Romanticisms believed that there is an good and evil.
. Read "A Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin. You should be able to indentify the following in this story:
a. details that specifically explain a characters actions, or detailed descriptions of a setting
The Story Of An Hour
"Now her bosom rose and fell tumultuously. She was begining to recognize this thing that was approaching to possess her, and she was striving to beat it back with her will--as powerless as her two white slender hands would have been."
This is stating will this is a good example for realism because it's giving more details in the story than romanticism would have given. This is showing how she felt and the way she was breathing when she sat down in the chair.
The Battle with Mr.Covey (A.) He was working so hard, then he fell and couldn't get back up so Mr.Covey had hit him with a board in the head. " making a large wound, and the blood ran freely; and with this again told me to get up."
This quote is talking about how bad slavery was back then and Fredrick Douglas was giving an example of how it really was back then. He's telling me everything about how slavery went down back then. This is another good example of realism because it's explaing every little detail and imaginary doesn't.
b. a social issue that Chopin wants to solve
The Story Of An Hour
"FREE!Body and Soul FREE!" She was whispering to herself.
The Story Of An Hour is and good example because of the fact that she was saying that in the late 1800's wives back then were upset because they didn't have any freedom. Their husband's always took over their bodies and told them what to do. Louis was happy when she heard that her husband died cause she then had all the freedom and control that she didn't have when she was with her husband. She didn't have to worry about a man telling her what to do. Later on she had died when she had found out that her husband didn't die when he walked in the house. They said she died of happiness when her husband walked in the door, but that's not true she died of sadness, hurt, and shock because she didn't have freedom.
The Battle with Mr.Covey (B.)
The Battle with Mr.Covey is another good example of realism because he is showing us how slavery was back in the 1800's to the late 1960's-and early 1970's. Slavery was hard and cruel back then.Once Martin Luther King said that speech things was starting to change. Fredrick Douglas is telling everything that happened 2 him. This is why this is a good story and example for realism because he is trying to tell never have a slave because it's rough.
Write a paragraph respone to a and b in which you explain how this story includes these aspects of realism.
Each paragraph should have some direct evidence from "A Story of an Hour".
9. Read "The Battle with Mr Covey" by Frederick Douglass. Follow the same directions for #1. Go further on this one to explain what you think Douglass' purpose was for writing this. Your response should be three paragraphs.
10. Provide a modern example of realism (Boyz in tha Hood, and Menace II Society, for that matter are off-limits). This can be music, a movie, a television show, a book, or whatever you may choose. You need to explain how it is realism, and provide an example from your choice (a lyric, description of a scene, quote, etc.)
the example that i'm goingto be talking about is lyrics well a song. The song is called Im His Only Woman. This is an good example of realism because it's telling us that some men are dogs. This song is talking about how this man was cheating on his girl with another girl. This song is by Jennifer Hudson featuring Fantasia Barrino. Fantasia is the other girl she had called Jennifer to tell her that her man has been seeing her constantly and she didn't want to start nothing. This is an good example for realism because it's talking about every little detail about how much jennifer did for this man and Fantasia is just calling out the blue. Here is an quote from the lyrics for when they were on the phone talking.
"***Ring, ring***
J Hud: Hello?
Fantasia: Hello, ca-can I speak to Jennifer please?
J: Yes, this is Jennifer. May I ask who's calling?
F: Hi Jennifer. I'm Tony's girlfriend. I don't mean to call on that disrespectful stuff like ...
J: Wait a minute. Tony's girlfriend??? Apparently you got the wrong number because I'm Tony's woman, his only woman that is.
F: Well obviously that's what he's been telling you, but I'm calling right now to formally introduce myself. My name is Fantasia...
J: Did you just say introduce yourself?
F: Yeah...
J: Well I don't need no introduction. I am his woman and I am Jennifer Hudson. If this was ten years ago, I'd be at your front door ready to whoop your ass. But you know what? I'm too grown for that. I ain't got nothing else to say."
11. The fun part - - -
a. Decide what you like best, Dark Romanticism or Realism.
I like Realism because it's giving more details. The reason why I don't like Dark Romanticism because it's talking bad things and it don't give many details.
b. Create a short piece ( a poem or very short story) of whichever you choose.
There is this dude that i know his name is mark. Mark is an drug addict he doesn't know when to quit doing drugs. The type of drugs that Mark has been using since i known him is crack, heroin, marijuna,x and a lot more other drugs that i know of but don't know the name of it. Mark says that doing drugs is good for him because it relieves stress from his body and its helping him with a lot."I told Mark that the only thing that the drugs are doing is killing him. Its not helping him."He was using heroin by giving his self a shot in his arm. He was sniffing the crack i guess thats how you do it. He had bought an cigerello and put marijuana in it and rolled it up and smoked it.
This is a piece of realism because its explaining what he did and why he was doing it. This is an good example because he is showing us that there is more than using drugs to relieve stress. This story is giving a lot of details about what he was using and what he did to get rid of stress. This nothing like imaginary details this story is showing more.
12. Explain (with DIRECT EVIDENCE FROM YOUR OWN WORK) how you have met (or exceeded) at least two of the standards listed below.
Yes. I used evidence from The Story of An Hour. I use evidence to show that this story was talking about how women wasn't free in the early 1800's to the late 1800's.
ELAALRL2 The student identifies, analyzes, and applies knowledge of theme in a work of American literature and provides evidence from the work to support understanding.
I identified the theme in Dark Romanticism. I identified the theme in realism, and i explain both of them and what they do. Dark Romanticism believed that there was an good and evil then what the trancendentalist did, they only belived that there was just good and no evil.
Realism believed that everything is real and it shows and give more detail than imaginary does. like a photgraph shows everything and a picture shows little detail you would have to imagine what is in the picture.
I related that The Story of An Hour and Jennifer Hudson song I'm his only woman relates with each other because it's showing that jennifer is free but her bf or husband cheated on her and The Story of An Hour is saying that women should be free.
ELAALRL4 The student employs a variety of writing genres to demonstrate a comprehensive grasp of significant ideas in selected literary works. The student composes essays, narratives, poems, or technical documents.
I met this standard because i wrote a story about this dude name mark who was a drug addict and it helped me understand what realism was and now that i understand it better i can write my own story or song or poem that is realism or real.

Final Draft #2
One of the things that is important to culinary arts is nutrition. Nutrition is important in so many ways, because it's based on your health, and the way you eat and making sure that you're eating right. I will be learning about are trhe relationship between nutrition and health. "The Art Institute says that they also learn about the functions, and sources of nutrients, proteins, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins, minerals, and water. This could also help us with the dietary facts for example: enerygy balance, vitamin supplements, food fad, and dietary guidelines." I think that nutrition is very important because without it what will you do, how do you think it will it affect your life without nutrition. These are the questions that people need to ask themselves if they don't have good nutrition and wellness and good health in their bodies.
another course that the Art Institute of Atlanta has to offer is Introduction to Baking. Preheating the oven before baking is important, because a recipe or the instructions state that the oven should be preheated first. The recipe or product was tested first, and that this is the way the chef recommends that you prepare the product in order to achieve the best possible results. Oven temperature can always be changed to higher or lower and this would change the baking time. In baking, it is important to be precise as possible because baking is a science. Cooking is more flexible so you can give or take some on the temperature or the time. Always preheat because it is recommended and will give you the best result. Even though I know all these things I also want to say that the Art Institute takes classes on pie dough, quick dough, cookie dough, and product finishing techniques. They also takes casses in well learn about yeast-raised dough methods. Another thing they do at the Art Institute is to learn about it's ingredient functions, product identification, and weights and measures as applied to baking. Baking is good for people, because when you bake it takes half of the fat out of the food then when you fry anything. This is another reason why baking is important.
Management, Supervision, and Career Development is another important part in culinary school. The Art Institute courses talks about emphasizes techniques for increasing productivity, controlling labor costs, time management, and managing change. It also stresses effective communication, and explains the responsibilities of a supervisor in the food-service operation. These courses at the Art Institute talks about Administrative Assistant Certification Series, Appraising performance, Building Self Confidence, Business Communication, Business Etiquette, Change Management for Employees, Change Management for Managers, Coaching Essentials for Managers, Effective Time Management, Employee Relationship Enhancement, Fundamentals of Motivating Employees, Presentation Skills, and Stress Management. Management is the process of getting activities completed efficiently and effectively with and through other people. This is some of the stuff that happens at the Art Institute of Atlanta College.
The course at The Art Institute of Atlanta that I think that is more important to me is Introduction to Pastry. As a result some people always cook the same dishes that they are able to manage, rareluy experimenting in the kitchen with new ingredients or different techniques, while others, rustle up dishes that are quick and easy to prepare or buy the ever so convenient ready-made meals that you just throw into the oven, saucepan or microwave in order to heat up. For some people, making pastries is deemed too time-consuming. Pastries are dough made from flour, fat, salt, and water that is then rolled out used as a base cover or envelope for sweet pastry, flaky pastry, hot water crust pastry, suet crust pastry, French flan pastry, rich flan pastry, and rich short pastry. At The Art Institute students learn a variety of dough, batters, fillings, and glazes with an emphasis on formulas. Instruction regarding the preparation of basic cakes and icings, rolling dough, preparations of pastry cream, and finishing techniques, plus selection and proper use and handling of various chocolates used in baking and decorating is introduced. These are the introductions to pastries.
So to come down to it, this school is a good school because its teaching me the different steps in a lot of courses that they are taking at the Art Institute. As i know I am already a good cook, but I see that I have to learn a lot more just to get better and become a better cook. Cooking for me is an experience because I have to learn new things just so I can become a better cook. By me looking up this school and searching this school it's telling me that I should attend culinary college, because I can learn more things then I already knew and experienced. Cooking is very fun to me. When I was younger I always wanted to know what will I be able to do and what will happen with food, and something just told me to go to any culinary arts college and become what I want to be. So I think this would be a good idea for me to go to any culinary arts college and become a professional chef.

final draft...
Cooking is not really hard unless you think negative and say it's hard and don't want to cook.Cooking will show people that it isn't hard. For example, once, when i was young i technically had messed up some pork chops.I had put the pork chops on and took them out thinking they were done, but they were not. That doesn't mean that I'm going to stop doing something that I love because I messed up some pork chops.I'm going to just keep trying until I get it right.
Cooking can show you how to experience new things. Most people think that cooking is hard, and that you will never succeed in anything just by cooking, and they think cooking will get them somewhere in life. What I would like to experience that's new is learning how to make Italian food,Russian food, and also Mexican food. I already know how to cook Chinese food because of the fact that my daddy taught me how to cook it.Chinese food is very easy if you put your mind to it.When I am cooking Chinese food I have to know what ingredients I need just to accomplish what you are making. For example:you would need at least four bags of rice, soy sauce, mixed vegetables homemade or out of the bag, boneless chicken thighs, sauce homemade or from the bottle, plates, napkins, forks or spoons, and drinks or water.
It is good to cook with someone you love because they can show you what and what not to do.I cook with my daddy.Yes it can get hard at some point of times, but really it's really easy if you just pay attention and let it all work through.Working with my daddy is pretty cool because I can talk to him about anything when it comes to cooking food. My daddy is like a professional chef in my house;he can cook just about anything that you want to eat.I love my daddy because he has showed me a lot in experiencing how to cook.Cooking with my daddy is so much fun because we love doing the same thing and that's why it is fun cooking with someone you love.
Another reason why it's good to cook is because when you are at home it's cheaper to cook in your house than going out to eat every night.Cooking at home I think is better because you can learn how to cook just about anything as the restaurant today cooks and have. For Example:when I go out to eat to a Chinese restaurant and I'm with four people it would cost 11.50 * 4 would be almost $60. Now if I would have gone to the store and bought the same thing but it would be ingredients it would cost me almost $35 because of the fact that I'm making it myself and buying the ingredients myself.
Many people don't like to cook because they think it's boring, very difficult to cope with, and don't like to do it because they would rather eat out almost everyday then just sitting at home wasting there time cooking food when they have money and can go out.I think these people are wrong because of the fact that once you try it you will always like it. It doesn't matter if you cook something then you mess it up, you should always keep trying until you get it right the next time.Cooking isn't really difficult unless you keep telling yourself that it is difficult by putting your mind and head in the gutter. If you think cooking is boring then don't because cooking isn't boring it's actually relaxing and it can take your mind off a lot of things that you were thinking of at first. If you go out to eat everyday then do you know that you can gain a lot of weight just by eating fast food everyday or any other food that's not healthy. That's why its best for you to stay at home and cook your own homemade food that you want to eat because you can know when not to go overboard about the food that you eat, than the food that you eat when you go out to eat.

Unit 2 Romanticism and Transcendentalism
1. Read it again. What is a theme? Would you know one when you saw it? Could you provide evidence to support what you say? Take a moment to post to your blog what this standard might mean, and while you are at it, what this thing called theme" is.
theme is the message that they do want you to take away of.yes i would know one if i saw.yes i could provide evidence to support what i say. This standard means that well say your in a t.v show and your trying to figure out what is theme. For instance my favorite t.v. show is called law and order. The theme is about crime and its telling people who watch it not to do it. Its talking about the evidence they find at the scene and it's supporting what the evidence say. This thing called theme is what is it talking about.
1.Romantics felt that reason and logic can only go so far for someone who is homeless and starving, or suffering the side-effects of the Industrial Revolution like pollution and being injured in large factories.
The Romantics believed there were higher truths than reason and logic, and they felt this could be accomplished by listening to one’s heart, or using one’s imagination to reach better places than where they were physically.
2.Romantics also focused on nature in their writing since they thought it was a way to escape from the loud city, as well as a way to hear ones intuition.
3.They want to show that common regualar people as good as anybody else.
a. What is original sin? is when adam and eve first sinned and thats how we became sinners because we took some of their sins and inherited in us.
b. How did the Puritans feel about original sin?they felt that god is angry with everybody and sent some to hell and some to heaven.
c. How did the Rationalists differ from the Puritans? they differ by thinking that god didnt control everything and that things happen because of science.
d. What are the main themes of Romanticism? Georgia Performance Standard ELAALRL2 states that you should be able to identify themes and support them with evidence. I will expect that you can do this at this point.
1.Romantics felt that reason and logic can only go so far for someone who is homeless and starving, or suffering the side-effects of the Industrial Revolution like pollution and being injured in large factories. The Romantics believed there were higher truths than reason and logic.
2.Romantics also focused on nature in their writing since they thought it was a way to escape from the loud city, as well as a way to hear ones intuition.
3.They want to show that common regualar people as good as anybody else.
5. When you are through reading, post a 1-2 paragraph response to each piece of writing to your blog. Be sure to concentrate more on what you thought of each piece of writing. Try to include at least one piece of direct evidence with each response (remember standard #1). This should be something that stuck out to you about the particular piece of writing.
from Nature
After reading I thought that going into nature would be going into a place where you or I can feel protected. Being in the presence of nature could help you or I seek spiritualality and religion. I also think that Ralph Waldo Emerson makes a good point about this story because The Transcendentalists believed that nature is a struggle and to help them not to believe that Ralph would have to talk to them. I think that the man is a good man. This story was kind of odd because I'm not really into nature like that, but it was a good story I understood it a little bit.
from Self-Reliance
My opinion is this story made me realize how I always worry more about what my little sister do and i don't focus more on Jasmine. It's bettr for me to focus mor on me for now on, because by me keep focusing on my little sister isn't really going to get me anywhere in life. So what I'm going to do for now on is worry more about me and what i do and not what my little sister do and don't do.
6. Next, write explain how each piece is a good example of Transcendentalism by identifying the central themes I described earlier in the post. Use what you read above, and prove that each piece is a good example with a paragraph supported with direct evidence (one paragraph each).
from Nature
The Transcendentalists were against religion and believed that GOD had communicated with them through nature and through peoples minds. The Transcendentalists also had believed that every human being was good and pure. The Transcendentalists did not believe that institutions like the government or organized religion were effective. Emerson reflects this belief in his very first sentence of his work, from Nature, "To go into solitude, a man needs to retire as much from his chamber as from society."
Transcendentalist are sturggling to define spiritualality and religion. Ralph Waldo Emerson says it's better to go into nature and you won't have to struggle anymore. You will be able to find protection, spirtuality and religion just by going in nature. My evidence found that this is true because the two sentences that represents this says, "In the woods, we return to reason and faith." The second sentece says, "Nature always wear the colors of the spirit." Ralph Waldo Emerson concludes that this can only be achieved by men and women working in harmony with nature.
from Self-Reliance
This story is talking about how you should believe more in yourself than anything because by you worrying about somebody else means your just hurting yourself, and putting yourself in danger. It's better to just worry about you and not no one else, because you can make and get to where you need to go if you just focus on yourself and believe in yourself.Thursday, August 13, 2009
Unit 1
this standard means to me that there is music and real life examples that relate to the history and literary works in the past. For Example the literary work, of Romeo and Juliet can be reflected to the time periods we have today. For Example:their is these couples one is American and the other person is Hispanic. The parents of the American child doesn't want there daughter to marry or go with the Hispanic because he isn't an American. This is important to students because they can see what was going on in history or old literary work so they can see what not to do in the modern time which is now.
1. Before you begin this unit, I want you to have a clear understanding of what you should be learning. Take a moment to post to your blog what you think the standard above addresses, and why you think it is important for you to master. Show me what you have written before you show me the rest.
SEE ABOVE...
2. Since we are starting at the beginning of American literature, we should start at a time before where we live was called America. Use your favorite search engine to find an example of Native American Literature (a poem, short folktale, or a prayer will work best). Read a few before you choose one. You need to be familiar with the example you choose because you will need to answer some questions about it. Copy and paste the example into your blog post.
"Sell a country! Why not sell the air,as well as the earth?
Did not theGreat Spirit make them all for the
use of his children?"
...Tecumseh, Shawnee
3. What do you think of your example? What is it about? Write a 2-3 sentence response to what you chose.
I think that this example is good for me and for others because one its short and two its talking about GOD. This quote is also talking about how GOD created land and the Earth. So why should you sell his area when he created it.0
4. Go to my drop box, and click on the Assignments folder. Watch the video called "Puritans". You should take some notes of the things that stand out to you -- direct quotes from the sermon will be helpful later. You should also take specific notice of their core beliefs:
5. Compare what your just heard to your Native American example. What are the differences in these two groups of people's cultures that stand out to you. How do their ideas of God differ? Do you see ways in which their cultures may clash? Post your thoughts to your blog. It should be at least a good paragraph with direct support from your example and the sermon in the video.
difference --The native believed in god and the puritans believed that God was a angry man and that he saved certain people and sent the rest of them to Hell.
natives thought--Natives thought that god had created the world
example--"Sell a country! Why not sell the air,as well as the earth?
Did not theGreat Spirit make them all for the
use of his children?"
...Tecumseh, Shawnee
puritans thought--Puritans thought that god was a very bad person and thought that JESUS didn't die on the cross for everybody and also thought that everybody was born a sinner.
example--is that naturally man are held in the hand of GOD over the pit of HELL.they have deserved the fiery pit and are already sentenced to it and GOD is already provoked.
6. There is a lot of differences between the puritans and the Rationalist. The main biggest part of the rationalist is that they believed in science and that they could us it to figure out the natural laws of the universe while the Puritans believed that God saved only a few people and had sent everybody to HELL.These people would argue over these reasons because they both thought they had both thought they were right as in the Puritans and the Rationalists.
7. Read the excerpt from The Autobiography by Benjamin Franklin in the red American Literature book. Pay special attention to the efforts Franklin made to improve his life.
Benjamin Franklin was a great and awesome example for the rationalists because he discover the laws of nature and they had became more intelligent throughout the years.
Give one example from The Autobiography of how Franklin is a good example of a rationalist. Make sure you explain why, and provide an example straight from the text.
The reason why i chose these 13 virtues because of the fact that Benjamin Franklin had discover that using science was the reason for everything that happens.

Well let me start off by saying that I think talking about these literary devices will help me understand them better than what i already do.I technically don't know what a lot of these literary devices means since I forgot about them.
Diction, imagery, point of veiw, figurative language, symbolism, plot events, main idea, poetry, prose, short story, novel, essay, editorial, biography, and drama i know about well at least i know a lil bit but heard of all of them. I don't know what imagery is but i would love to find out.Diction means talking or having something to say.point of view means observing or considering a standpoint.symblolism means showing symbols.point of view means where it takes place.
